Wake’s Oliver, Stanford’s Somfai Named ACC Women’s Basketball Players of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Wake Forest sophomore forward Grace Oliver has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Stanford forward Lara Somfai earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors for games played December 22-28.

ACC women’s basketball weekly honors are nominated by member schools and determined by a vote of the Blue Ribbon Panel.

PLAYER – Grace Oliver, So., F, Wake Forest (Norwell, Massachusetts)
  • Finished a perfect 14-for-14 from the field for a game-high 30 points in Wake Forest’s 78-66 win over Gardner-Webb last Monday.
  • The 14-for-14 mark is the most made field goals without a miss in ACC history.
  • Registered just the ninth known occurrence in NCAA history of a player making 14 or more shots without a miss and first since Central Michigan’s Tinara Moore on January 9, 2016.
  • Her 30-point effort is the first by a Wake forward since Dearica Hamby tallied 32 points against Georgia Tech on February 28, 2015.
  • Becomes the first Demon Deacon to win ACC Player of the Week since the 2021-22 season.

ROOKIE – Lara Somfai, Fr., F, Stanford (Adelaide, Australia)
  • Nearly recorded a double-double in Sunday’s 82-50 rout of Cornell, finishing with nine points and a career-high 18 rebounds.
  • The 18 boards are the most by a Cardinal freshman since 2014 and are tied for the most by a Division I freshman this season.
  • Becomes just the fourth different ACC player this season to record a game with 18 rebounds or more.

Women’s Basketball Notes
  • ACC teams have accumulated 144 nonconference victories this season.
  • ACC teams have played 30 games against teams ranked in the Associated Press (AP) Poll (31 against teams inside the USA Today Coaches Poll), the most among peer power conferences.
  • Three teams are currently ranked in the AP Poll: Louisville (No. 13), North Carolina (No. 16) and Notre Dame (No. 18). NC State and Stanford are currently receiving votes.
