CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.theACC.com) - The Atlantic Coast Conference and its Board of Directors have announced the conference leadership structure for the transformative 2024-25 year, which will see the ACC expanded to 18 members with the addition of Cal, SMU and Stanford beginning July 1.
University of Virginia President James E. Ryan will serve as the league’s Chair of the Board of Directors for the second year of his two-year term. He will be joined by Wake Forest University President Susan R. Wente as the Vice-Chair of the league’s Board of Directors, announced by the Board of Directors following the annual winter meetings in February.
“It remains a privilege to work with the ACC Board of Directors - as its leadership is invaluable - led by President Ryan and President Wente,” said Phillips. “The ACC excels both academically and athletically and continues to stand out as a national leader in college athletics. As we begin our league’s first as an 18-member conference, there is great excitement and anticipation which is due to the collective ongoing successes of our members.”
The Conference’s Executive Committee will include Ryan, Wente, Boston College President William Leahy, University of Miami Chief Executive Officer and Acting President Joe Echevarria, University of Pittsburgh Chancellor Joan Gabel, and Georgia Institute of Technology President Angel Cabrera. The remaining Board of Directors members are represented on other key committees such as Finance, Audit, and Autonomy and will rotate onto the Executive Committee as terms expire.
The Chair of the Faculty Athletic Representatives for the 2024-25 academic year will be Jennifer Irish (Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University). Boo Corrigan (North Carolina State University) will be the Chair of the Athletics Directors, and Marielle vanGelder (University of North Carolina) will serve as the Chair of the Senior Woman Administrators.
The ACC adopted changes to its constitution and bylaws in 2020 that officially established the 15 – now 18 – league presidents and chancellors as the ACC’s Board of Directors. Previous Board chairs include Syracuse University Chancellor Kent Syverud (2020-21) and Duke University President Vincent E. Price (2021-22 and 2022-23).
